Clean LCVs for destined for Clear Drains08 October 2012

Independent drainage service company Clear Drains has bought 18 vehicles from Mercedes-Benz – nine 3.5-tonne medium-length, high-roofed Sprinter 313CDIs, and nine 2.8-tonne Vito 113CDI longs.

All of the vans have been specified with the manufacturer's BlueEfficiency package, which combines measures aimed at reducing both fuel use and exhaust emissions – including eco-start and low rolling resistance tyres.

Efficiency improvements have also been made to the power steering system, fuel pump and battery management on both van types. Mercedes-Benz claims that these upgrades have helped to produce a combined cycle fuel consumption figure of almost 40mpg in the Vito.

"Between them, our vehicles cover some 60,000 miles a month, so diesel is a massive cost to our business," comments managing director John Stottor.

"As BlueEfficiency models, our new Vito and Sprinter vans are in a different league, in terms of fuel efficiency and environmental compatibility," he adds.

Clear Drains previously sourced its vehicles through specialist leasing companies, but has welcomed the opportunity to finance its new vans through Mercedes-Benz.

"The contract hire rates were certainly attractive," states Stottor. "More importantly, though, we're confident that this one-stop shop solution will give us a better, less diluted service than we've received in the past."
