Coal distributor bags payload boost with Isuzu Forward02 October 2014

Solid fuel supplier CPL Distribution has extended its 90-strong fleet with a specially designed Isuzu Forward 4x2 rigid, with a split dropside body for kerbside deliveries of bagged coal.

Manoeuvrability and payload were key to the decision, and CPL worked with Isuzu on the final specification.

The N50.150 4x2 rigid, with 5,020kg gvw, has a shorter wheelbase (2,480mm) and uprated axles. The split dropside body has pull-out steps on both sides, as well as at the rear of the vehicle.

"By having a high-sided body, this enables the open coal sacks to be safely contained within the truck body," says Mandy Gill, CPL's transport manager.

"Whereas on previous flatbed trucks, the open coal sacks would normally have had to be strapped in, as well as netted over."

Operating out of CPL's depot near Neath Port Talbot, the vehicle is expected to be in service for five years, covering up to 40,000km a year.
