Continental keeps a low profile with new Conti EcoPlus HD324 March 2015

Continental has launched a new drive axle tyre, designed to ensure operators can maximise the 3m internal load height of trailers for operations in continental Europe.

The Conti EcoPlus HD3 is the tyre manufacturer's first drive axle tyre to be developed for low-liners. This 315/45 R22.5 tyre meets the requirements of the volume transport segment and, despite its low diameter, can take axle loads of 11.6-tonnes in twin fitment.

Conventional truck tyres, says Continental, don't allow internal load height to be maximised without exceeding overall height restrictions. However, at a diameter of 852mm, the Conti EcoPlus HD3 315/45 R22.5 lowers the fifth-wheel height of the towing vehicle.

The tyre features a new rubber compound to ensure optimum tread wear with low rolling resistance, and is marked with M+S and 3PMSF for winter conditions.

The retreadable carcass also features Continental's AirKeep inner liner, to prevent gradual loss of compressed air.

The range will also be extended soon with the addition of the 355/50 R22.5 Conti EcoPlus HS3 which, together with the 315/45 R22.5, is suitable for tractors and semi-trailers in volume transport.
