Continental launches two types of trailer tyres02 August 2011

Continental Tyres has added two 17.5in tyres to its trailer tyre product range: HTR2 for regional transport and HTL2 for long-distance operations.

Arthur Gregg, sales and marketing director at Continental, says the new tyres have been designed and engineered for volume-based trailers, and adds that their smaller circumference enables greater carrying capacity on regional and long-distance work.

The HTR2 is a regional tyre for low-loaders and trailers with interior heights up to 3m, said to have a high load-bearing capacity and delivering maximum traction and performance on any road surface. A special tread design with blocks and narrow grooves provides good directional control, while also preventing stones from becoming trapped.

Meanwhile, for long-distance operators, the HTL2 low-profile tyre offers low rolling resistance and overall mileage. Its new tread has narrower longitudinal grooves and wide, closed shoulders, ensuring minimal deformation on the road and hence also less friction.

"As with all of Continental's product range, the two new premium tyres are engineered and manufactured to deliver the best possible whole-life cost savings," states Gregg. "This translates into better fuel consumption – owing to low-rolling resistance – and extended tyre life."
