‘Cowboy’ operators slammed by regulator06 July 2017

Graeme and Eion Robertson, two transport operators from Armadale, West Lothian, have had their licence refused after running HGVs illegally over a long period.

At a recent public inquiry, Scotland’s traffic commissioner Joan Aitken described the brothers as “dishonest” and said they had “imperilled road safety and grossly abused fair competition”.

Their web of deceit, she added, had required much unravelling by inspectors.

The regulator also disqualified Newhouse operator John Allan from holding an operator’s licence for three years and from acting as a transport manager indefinitely – he had allowed the Robertsons to use his licence and, said Aitken, anyone who “aids the cowboys cannot expect to retain their repute”.

Eion Robertson also had his professional driving licence suspended for six weeks for breaching drivers’ hours rules.
