DAF does the heavy lifting for Recovery North West29 May 2020

Wirral-based recovery and automotive logistics firm Recovery North West has taken delivery of six new DAF vehicles as part of its ongoing fleet renewal strategy.

Four DAF XFs with Super Space Cabs are at the vanguard of the fleet with three XF 530 FT 4x2 tractor units for specialist transport along and one-off XF 530 FAS 6x2 rigid (dual-mounted trailing axle) wrecker with a remote-operated twin 30,000lb hydraulic winch, 30-tonne K boom and a 32-tonne rear bogie to make light work of the heaviest loads. All six were supplied through DAF franchise dealer North West Trucks located in Huyton, Merseyside.

Supplementing the XFs are a pair of LF rigids at 12- and 16-tonnes GVW, both on rear-air. The 12-tonne LF has been adapted as a dedicated and secure covered transporter, while the second LF 16-tonner has been equipped as a full-service roadside recovery vehicle with an SLA tilt-and-slide rear flatbed twin deck with spectacle lift and five-tonne winch. The company aims to cover the full spectrum of breakdown recovery from passenger cars through to heavy duty trucks and buses.

Stephen Hall, managing director, Recovery North West, says: “Overall, we run a mixed fleet, but when it came time to replace a portion of our vehicles, it was a simple decision to go with the six DAFs as opposed to changing like-for-like. The cost, performance and well-known reliability were deciding factors, while all our drivers – including myself – rate DAF interiors as the best in terms of comfort no matter the journey.”

Established for over 40 years, Recovery North West now covers the Wirral, Liverpool and Merseyside, Chester and Cheshire and North Wales. It has garages throughout Merseyside as well as boasting its own commercial fitters.
