DAF Euro 6 delivers whole package for transport firm16 January 2014

Northampton operator SW Wreford Transport has acquired its first Euro 6 trucks, adding two DAF XF460 tractor units to its 100-strong fleet.

Both feature a 460bhp MX-13 engine, giving 10.45bhp per tonne of power to weight at 44 tonnes.

The MX-13 also delivers 2,300Nm of torque between 1,000 and 1,400 rpm and is mated to a 12-speed AS-tronic automated transmission and single reduction drive axle.

Wreford's specification included SuperSpace cabs, which have sufficient headroom to enable the driver to stand up. They also have a bunk, plenty of storage and an interior night lock for overnight security. The trucks also feature DAF's new navigation system.

Fleet director Andrew Wreford says the decision to buy hinged on the whole package, including aftercare.

"We run a large number of DAFs and we know that they are reliable and good on fuel, but that's only part of the equation. We have to consider parts costs and residual values, as well," he says.

Wreford has a workshop with an ATF lane, where it maintains its own vehicles and carries out third party work, so fitters will be trained at DAF's UK headquarters on the Euro 6 technologies.
