DAF expands new Euro 6 CF and XF with new rigids 13 January 2014

With its CF and XF Euro 6 tractors (4x2 and 6x2 with second steered axle – FTG) already well into production, DAF is now expanding its offerings, with a range of CF and XF 6x2 rigids.

These will be offered with single or dual-mounted trailing axle (FAR and FAS), rear steered axles (FAN) and second steered axles (FAG), as well as a range with double-drive tandem.

All get DAF's new CF and XF look, the new drivelines, a new front wheel suspension arrangement and new, even more efficient axles.

CF and XF rigisds (wheel bases from 4.20 to 5.90 metres) with the FAR single mounted trailing axle get a 7.5-tonne trailing axle to extend load capacity to 13 tonnes. Meanwhile, the FAS versions are get a 10-tonne trailing axle, with the double mounting maximising stability for applications with a high centre of gravity – such as in container and livestock transport.

As for the rear steered axle (FAN) versions, the new Euro 6 CF FAN is aimed at urban transport applications, such as refuse collection or beverage distribution, where the improved manoeuvrability will make a difference.

In addition to DAF's ECAS air suspension on the rear axle, the front axle can now also be fitted with air suspension, allowing extra lift height and quick adjustment. DAF says the 6x2 rigid chassis is "the ideal basis for swap-body systems such as the BDF [German container haulage] system".

Indeed, DAF now offers complete BDF systems ex-factory, including frame, twist-locks and the electrical system.

As for rigids with the second steered axles (FAG), DAF says that these have been designed for applications that require both high load capacities and excellent manoeuvrability – for example RCVs, or milk collection tankers.

Making that work is a steering axle, with a maximum load capacity of 7.5 tonnes, fitted in front of the 13-tonne driven axle.

There is also a double-drive tandem (8x4 FAD) for heavy-duty haulage, aimed at the construction industry (tippers, concrete mixers etc), using DAF's eight-rod tandem with hub reduction for frequent off-road driving or single reduction where off-highway is limited.

And there is a 6x4 (FAT) version of the new Euro 6 CF, designed for applications such as transporting sand and soil, waste containers, agricultural products and concrete and dump containers. This truck is available with a maximum axle load of 9 tonnes on the front axle, 26-tonne load on the tandem and for gross combination weights of up to 50 tonnes.
