DAF invests €100m to mark 50 years of production 22 February 2016

DAF Trucks Vlaanderen NV is marking 50 years of production at its Westerlo, Belgium, facility with a €100 million investment in a new cab paint shop.

This latest spend comes on top of investment totalling €600 million in the last 15 years at the site, which produces 200 cabs and 450 axles every day for the DAF CF and XF trucks.

When the paint shop is complete, says DAF, it will increase production capacity by 50% and will be the most modern facility of its kind in Europe.

The first cabs came off the line at Westerlo in May 1966 and DAF moved its axle factory to the site from Eindhoven in 1971.

The factory produced its two-millionth axle in 2011 and passed the one million cab mark in 2014.

The fact that we are now celebrating 50 years of DAF production in Belgium is a wonderful recognition of our more than 2,200 employees,” says Harrie Schippers, president of DAF Trucks NV.

“With our continuous investments in DAF Trucks Vlaanderen, DAF demonstrates its confidence in the future of its plant in Belgium.”
