The ultimate winner of the award – which concludes in March 2016 with the top 20 scorers competing in the national final – will receive £2000 of vouchers and the coveted DAF Technician of the Year trophy.
The runner-up receives £1,000 of reward vouchers, fopllowed by £500 for third place and £200 for all the remaining finalists.
DAF Trucks' business services manager Tony Shepherd explains that the final, staged at DAF Trucks, in Thame, will comprise a sequence of tests, including theory and practical workshop-based examinations.
Contestants also undergo live fault diagnosis and repair situation under the watchful eye of a qualified instructor.
"Our DAF technicians are one of the company's greatest assets, and they are at the very heart of DAF's reputation as providing the best back-up – both at dealer workshops and at the roadside through DAFaid," states Shepherd.
"Our training courses offer an interesting, practical curriculum that really empowers our Technicians," he continues.
Shepherd says that the technician courses inspire them to "self-improve" under the DAF umbrella – so sustaining the aftersales effort, which is the lifeblood of any truck OEM.
"I know I speak for the rest of the senior management team when I say the DAF UK Technician of the Year awards is one of the key events staged by the company," comments Shepherd.
