Dampneys lifts fleet efficiency with Volvo FMX rigids29 January 2018

Biosolids recycling business Dampneys Agri Environmental (DAE) has taken delivery of its first two Volvo FMX 8x4 rigid trucks, which are among the first of this type to be specified with the manufacturer’s Tandem Lift Axle.

Supplied by dealer Wales and West Truck and Bus, the Dorset-based operator’s new 404bhp additions are also equipped with Sleeper cabs, 12-speed I-Shift automated mechanical gearboxes and high chassis heights.

For maximum driver safety, the 24 cu metre Wilcox tipper bodies are fitted with electric sheeting systems and air operated tailgates. DAE also opted for five-year Volvo Gold R&M contracts.

The Tandem Axle Lift is particularly suited to DAE’s operations, where the vehicles drive heavily loaded in one direction and return empty in the other. When unloaded, a dashboard button can disengage and raise the drive axle. Once loaded again, the drive axle automatically lowers and engages to ensure maximum traction and driveability, taking 15 seconds from start to finish.

The Tandem Axle Lift option is now available for all models in the Volvo FM, FMX, FH and FH16 ranges.
