Dawsonrentals handles cold store deliveries with first UK Swinglifts11 November 2013

Dawson Temperature Control Solutions, part of Dawsonrentals, is using the first two trailers to be fitted with the Swinglift container handling system in the UK.

The trailers and lifts have been engineered to handle 12.2m, 13.7m and 15.2m transportable cold stores and blast freezers up to 3.8m wide, without the need for local cranage.

The Swinglifts are used to load and unload cold stores and freezers at customers' premises, or to transfer them from one trailer to another.

The lifts are mounted at either end of the trailers, which are extended to suit the size of cold store or blast freezer being handled. Cold stores and blast freezers are secured on the trailer by on-board twistlocks.

The Swinglifts were supplied by Montracon, which became the sole UK and European agent for Swinglift in April this year.

"We worked closely with Montracon engineers to develop the right specification and, after just a few weeks in service, it's clear that this work was well founded," states Chris Allen, fleet manager at Dawson Temperature Control Solutions.

"The two Swinglift trailers, and the two similarly configured Montracon skeletal trailers, supplied as part of the order, mean that we can collect and deliver a selection of cold stores and blast freezers to any given location without the need for – and thus the cost of – local cranage."

This also means deliveries and collections can be scheduled more flexibly, he adds.
