Dechmont Forklift Trucks lifts lid on first Volvo truck order26 September 2017

Dechmont Forklift Trucks has taken delivery of a Volvo FE 6x2 rigid – the West Lothian-based operator’s first Volvo vehicle.

Supplied by Volvo Truck and Bus Centre North & Scotland, the new vehicle is fitted with a 30ft plant body by Lothian Vehicle Bodybuilders.

Powered by Volvo’s D8K Euro VI engine producing 320bhp, the chassis also features an I-Shift automated manual transmission and a Day cab.

The FE-320’s beavertail body comes with an engineered sub-chassis that delivers a low bed height and a double hinged, heavy-duty powered ramp provides a shallow approach angle for safe loading or unloading. A 15,000lb pull winch is also fitted immediately behind the cab.

“Volvo Trucks has an established brand reputation for quality, safety and reliability,” says Davey Forrest, Dechmont Forklift’s managing director, on his reasons for the marque’s selection.

“The location of the Edinburgh dealership of Volvo Truck and Bus Centre North & Scotland also proved attractive, as it’s only a few hundred yards from our own premises,” Davey added.

Dechmont chose the FE-320 chassis, with a twin tyre tag axle, for its payload. “Our largest CAT forklift truck model weighs in at 13.5 tonnes, which is well within the payload factor of our new Volvo FE,” says Forrest.

“Smaller forklift truck moves across the whole of Scotland are the norm, however, and most days our driver can legally carry three forklift trucks.”
