Demolition firm knocks 7% off fuel bill with telematics solution10 January 2014

Demolition and asbestos removal specialist Maylarch says it has cut fuel bills by 7% and reduced emissions, since installing the Masternaut telematics solution.

Originally aimed at improving transport management, the technology has delivered further benefits to Maylarch, including notable improvements in driver behaviour.

As well as being able to identify vehicle location, Masternaut offers Maylarch a system that scores drivers based on vehicle economy and driving behaviour. With built-in, localised speed limits for every road network, the system also provides real-time speeding alerts, as well as reporting.

Maylarch is using this to underpin a new Safer Driving Scheme, designed to improve driving standards and incentivise good practice. Masternaut reports show the scheme has already resulted in a reduction in speeding of 9%.

"Driver behaviour monitoring, with a focus on speeding, has helped improve driver safety and awareness of best driving practice among our employees – which truly is invaluable," says Nick Williamson, Maylarch's managing director.

"We chose Masternaut above other telematics providers, because the solution was more user-friendly for our staff and offered far clearer, more detailed reporting – particularly from a driver behaviour point of view," he continues.

"Fuel costs have been reduced by 7% in addition to lowered vehicle wear-and-tear, thanks to improved driver behaviour, which in turn has led to a reduction in emissions."

And he adds: "When it comes to compliance and insurance, we are now able to identify both the location and driver of any vehicle at any given time, enabling us to prove or disprove a driver's involvement in an incident."
