East Yorkshire Motor Services upgrades fleet with Volvo12 October 2017

Hull-based operator East Yorkshire Motor Services (EYMS) has taken delivery of 12 new Volvo B5TL double-deck buses.

The latest order follows an order of six of the same vehicles earlier this year, all part of a total £3.5 million upgrade to bring its 300-strong fleet of mostly Volvo vehicles up to Euro VI emission standards.

The B5TL is powered by Volvo’s D5K four-cylinder, 5.1-litre engine producing 240bhp at 2,200rpm, with a maximum torque of 918Nm at 1,200 to 1,600rpm, and drives through a ZF Ecolife six-speed automatic gearbox.

“Since taking delivery of the vehicles with their efficient Euro VI engines and using them on our longest inter-urban routes, we have noticed a significant improvement in fuel consumption, and look forward to continued savings moving forward,” says Peter Shipp, owner of EYMS.

“Keeping our fuel costs down is a really important goal for us, as the routes these buses will be used to cover thousands of miles each year.

“We are extremely happy with the consistent quality and excellent value, we receive from these vehicles and will no doubt return to Volvo again the next time we are looking to upgrade our fleet.”
