Eddie Stobart delivers Christmas in festive TV special 06 January 2011

Following last year's TV documentary series tracking Eddie Stobart trucks and trailers, Channel Five will broadcast a so called Christmas Special at 8pm on Monday 10 January.

The hour-long show, entitled 'Eddie Stobart: Trucks, Trailers and Tinsel', gives some idea of the seasonal challenges experienced by the transport firm during one of the harshest Decembers in its 40-year history.

Film crews from production company Princess Productions go behind the scenes and follow the drivers who helped transport 375,000 Christmas trees from the north of Scotland, nearly five million toys to shops and warehouses and 200,000 turkeys during the weekend before Christmas.

They capture how the logistics company battled to keep its depots open and trucks moving through some of the worst snowfall in years – with 500 extra trucks and 1,000 trailers roped in for the task and the company's planning and vehicle tracking software in serous action.

"Operationally, the Christmas period is our most complex and busiest time of the year. Volumes of chilled produce and supermarkets goods increase dramatically and it requires expert planning and everyone in the company to work together to keep food on the shelves and toys in the shops," comments William Stobart, chief operating officer of Stobart Group.

"But this Christmas was made even more difficult, with the adverse weather conditions. It's a credit to our drivers and all the staff that we were able to keep the trucks rolling and the shelves full," he adds.
