Edwards Transport goes for telematics on latest Schmitz reefers 10 November 2015

Edwards Transport has commissioned 20 new Schmitz Cargobull S.KO Cool reefers equipped with telematics to better manage its chilled distribution operations.

The new refrigerated trailers are fleet replacements, brining its 50-strong temperature controlled trailer fleet to more than 70% Schmitz.

“We were extremely impressed with the quick delivery time, which has helped us to get these new trailers into service far quicker than we initially thought possible,” comments Mark Edwards, transport director of the Shropshire-based haulier.

And he adds that this is the first time Edwards Transport has used Schmitz Cargobull’s integrated TrailerConnect temperature and mapping telematics package—which monitors temperature data, door opening times, etc – having previously used only basic tracking.

Built in Vreden, Germany, the new trailers are also equipped with Schmitz Cargobull’s recently launched multifunction floor, manufactured with watertight welded scuff rails and drains in the floor pan.

They have also been PIEK-certified, and the quiet refrigeration units coupled with the low-noise floors are claimed to reduce noise emissions to less than 60 dB.

Other features specified include ferry shackles – to support the company’s growth into mainland Europe – together with Schmitz Cargobull’s own-brand ROTOS running gear.

“With their advanced technology, low running costs and high residual value, our new Schmitz Cargobull refrigerated trailers will play a key part in supporting our ongoing expansion plans,” states Edwards.
