Ex-Samworth boss takes top job at Road Haulage Association03 July 2014

The Road Haulage Association (RHA) has announced the appointment of Richard Burnett as its new chief executive. Burnett (pictured) joins from Samworth Brothers where he was managing director of the distribution business.

Burnett's experience includes spells at Wincanton, TDG and Hays, with responsibility for transport and warehousing strategies for businesses such as Heinz, GSK, Panasonic and Adidas.

RHA national chairman Peter Barber says: "He understands the industry and the real-life commercial challenges faced by each and every one of our members... With his strong strategic, operational, commercial and financial expertise, Richard will take the RHA forward into a new and exciting era."

Burnett says he welcomes the chance to help shape the RHA's services for its members: "While I am not an 'association' man, I do believe my industry experience is what the RHA needs at this stage of its evolution."

Burnett replaces Geoff Dunning, who has been in the role since March 2009.
