FairFuelUK presses government for 3p cut in fuel duty24 November 2014

Campaign group FairFuelUK has met with government ministers to follow up on its recent letter requesting more transparent pricing at the pumps and to call for a 3p per litre reduction in fuel duty.

At a meeting with treasury minister Priti Patel (pictured) and Robert Halfon, parliamentary private secretary to the chancellor, FairFuelUK called for the government to cut fuel duty in the autumn statement and March budget.

The campaign group says cutting duty could result in more jobs, so increasing GDP and lowering inflation.

Priti Patel said she thanked FairFuel UK for "a very constructive meeting", adding: "I fully recognise the issues they raised. I assured FairFuelUK that this government is committed to supporting households and businesses with the cost of fuel."

Howard Cox, campaign founder, described the meeting as "hugely encouraging".

At the meeting, FairFuelUK also called for new fuel receipts, showing all taxes involved, not just VAT.
