Falken tyres cut costs for mixed use truck operators 07 October 2014

Operators seeking affordable but robust, mixed-use truck tyres now have another option in the form of Falken.

The new tyres come out of Falken's success in the US construction sector and are available for all year round use, with derivatives for drive as well as trailer and steering axles.

For the UK truck market, Falken's GI388 and GI378 tyres come M+S marked and regroovable – and have been designed to handle the higher weights associated with Euro 6 trucks, with ratings of up to 13,000kg.

They have a deep tread profile for traction, with circumferential serrated grooves and deep notches.

The firm's UK and Ireland director Matt Smith says they also come packed with features typically found on more expensive tyres from the premium brands.

He gives the example of the range's robust casing, incorporating heat-resistant inner rubber layers topped with a low abrasion compound for re-grooving.

And he points to stone ejectors, which prevent foreign objects becoming trapped in the grooves and penetrating the tyre belts – so minimising the risk of corrosion that can prematurely end a tyre's operating life.

As a further line of defence, rust inhibitors are standard across the range, while the sidewall are equipped with protection bands to minimise scuffing damage.

"We know from talking to operators that tyre failures are costly and our tyres are packed with sensible design features to ensure minimal downtime and extend the life of the tyre," states Smith.

GI388 is available as: 315/80R 22.5 156/150K; 12R 22.5 152/148K; and 11R22.5 148/145K.

The GI378 for steering axle tyres and trailers is initially available as: 385/65R 22.4 158K; 425/65R 22.5 165K; and 445/65R 22.5 168K.
