Fifth wheel auto-lube liner proving popular 07 June 2013

Improved fuel economy, tyre life and handling stability are among findings being reported by haulage operators using Bowmonk's fifth wheel liner, launched at last years` Tip-Ex show.

Other benefits cited by Bowmonk field sales engineer Chris Bailey for the firm's auto-lube liner include zero maintenance required on the fifth wheel plate and coupling, which remains free of impurities.

The liner is manufactured from high density polyethylene, which, claims Bailey, "gives maximum viscosity with minimum wear".

He also says that the liner provides for high load capacity and slip coefficient, as well as long life. "The minimum life of our liners is typically around 250,000 miles. However, improved driving conditions can result in a considerably longer life of around 500,000 miles."

And at a cost of between £95 & £120, depending on the model of fifth wheel coupling involved, that's not bad.

The only limit, according to Bailey, concerns large fleets hauling, dropping and swapping multiple trailers, where some are bound to be treated conventionally.

The auto lube liner works best on smaller dedicated fleets, where all tractors and trailers are covered," he says.
