First Bus puts Metrodecker through its paces16 June 2016

First Bus has been handed the keys of a pre-production 11.1m Metrodecker demonstrator vehicle and will now put the bus through its paces in a series of in-service trials.

The Metrodecker is Optare’s latest addition. The low floor double-deck has a fully integral frame, is light weight and, says the manufacturer, delivers outstanding fuel economy and class-leading seating capacity.

The Metrodecker is available in two lengths: a single door, 11.1m version; and a two-door, 10.5m vehicle.

“I am delighted that the Metrodecker will be setting out to prove itself on a real-world trial with one of the largest group operators in the UK,” says Robert Drewery, Optare’s commercial director.

“We will be monitoring its performance closely and we look forward to the feedback from First Bus.”

Mark Munday, technical director at First Bus, said: “First Bus is committed to continual improvement in environmental performance and we are keen to test the fuel efficiency benefits for ourselves.”

Optare’s Metrocity will also undertake in-service testing with First Bus, in Halifax this summer.
