First CNG minibuses on the road for Blue Bus Innovations09 November 2018

Luton-based start-up company Blue Bus Innovations is taking delivery of three IVECO Daily Line Hi-Matic vehicles powered by compressed natural gas (CNG), making the operator the first in the UK to run CNG minibuses.

Supplied by dealer IVECO Retail Croydon, the three 16-seater CNG minibuses are joined by three 19-seater Daily Tourys minibuses, making this an all-IVECO fleet. The vehicles will be operating on shuttle runs between central London and Luton Airport.

The CNG minibuses (all Daily 50C14GA8 models) are built on a 4,100mm wheelbase and powered by IVECO’s 3.0-litre, 138bhp engine – which is at least 4dB quieter than its diesel equivalent.

The diesel-powered Tourys models (Daily 65C18HA8) are powered by a 3.0-litre, 178bhp engine. Also built on a 4,100mm wheelbase, they offer easy-to-reach, lowered luggage compartments with a capacity of 2.5m³.

All are equipped with the eight-speed Hi-Matic automatic transmission. They are funded on five-year leases through IVECO Capital and are supplied with the manufacturer’s Elements R&M package.

Performance and green credentials were the winning factors, says Tazio Puri Negri, Blue Bus managing director.

“While we strive to offer our customers the best service, we are also aware we need to minimise our impact on the environment.

“That’s why we turned to IVECO. Their natural gas offering is the best on the market and was the only choice for us as we get our business on the move.”
