Fleet risk manager celebrates prize-winning performance on van defects12 August 2014

Fleet risk manager Chris Charlton is jetting off to Spain next month on an all-expenses paid trip to the World Superbike Championship, after correctly identifying all 10 defects on a van exhibited by the Freight Transport Association's Van Excellence Scheme.

The prize, courtesy of Van Excellence partner and vehicle graphics business Sign Language, was offered at the recent DRIVEit! event for light commercial vehicle operators at the Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground, Leicestershire.

Charlton, occupational road risk manager with Northern Powergrid, was declared the winner after his entry from selected from all those who spotted every defect.

He describes himself as a "retired motorcyclist" and says he is thrilled to win the trip: "I have attended several trade events over the years and entered exhibitors' competitions and never heard anything further, so to be successful on this occasion was brilliant."

Sign Language has a World Superbike Championship tie-up with Suzuki, after first wrapping the Suzuki World Superbike team's machines in 2012.
