Flexible Fuso Canter is auto choice for Nixon Hire 05 July 2013

Nixon Hire's has bought five new 3.5-tonne Fuso Canter 3C13 trucks in a bid to boost flexibility and tackle a wider range of jobs.

The plant and toilet hire firm is using the vehicles to deliver portable toilets to construction sites, music festivals and sports event across the north of England and as far afield as Inverness.

Nixon Hire specified its Canters with Duonic gearboxes, because of their reputation for smoother shifting and better fuel economy, particularly with the Eco Mode.

"Our workload ranges from delivering over 300 units to a single site, to supplying a single toilet for a domestic customer, so we need to adopt a flexible approach to the number of cubicles we can safely transport," comments transport manager Graham Wood.

"The Canter's cab-forward design and the availability of a long-wheelbase chassis have allowed us to fit a 5m body, capable of holding eight cubicles, without needing a very long rear overhang," he continues

"The vehicle's 3.5-tonne towing capacity means we can operate at a gross train weight of 7-tonnes," he adds, explaining that each truck can pull a trailer carrying a further 10 toilets.

"This outstanding towing capability was key to our decision to work with Bell Truck and Van [Mercedes-Benz dealer] to fulfil this order."
