Fontaine fifth wheels specified by Dunlop Motorsport25 June 2013

Racing tyre manufacturer Dunlop Motorsport has specified 15 Actros 1842 BigSpace tractor units with Fontaine 150 SP fifth wheels, with sliders.

This fifth wheel design aims to increase safety by eliminating the potential for mis-coupling and dropping of trailers.

Each one features the Fontaine Techlock system, which prevents the hooking mechanism from locking, if the trailer's kingpin is too high.

The New Actros tractor units are tasked with transporting car and motorcycle racing tyres from Dunlop Motorsport's manufacturing plant in Birmingham to events such as the Isle of Man TT and 24 Hours of Le Mans – as well as to rounds of the MotoGP, FIA World Endurance and British Touring Car championships.

The tractor units have been fitted with Dunlop SP344 tryes on the steering axles and SP444s on the drive wheels.

These, says Dunlop, are designed to improve fuel efficiency and provide outstanding traction in all weathers – just like the race tyres they carry.
