Food supplier says Mercedes New Actros is the right ingredient13 May 2014

Apollo Foods has extended its all-Mercedes fleet with four New Actros 1842 18-tonners, with narrow StreamSpace cabs.

Each is powered by a 421bhp straight-six engine, with 12-speed Powershift 3 automated transmission, and the trucks were specified with 2.3m-wide cabs to help improve manoeuvrability for deliveries in urban areas.

Glasgow-based Apollo supplies chilled, frozen and ambient products to caterers, restaurants and fast-food outlets, so the trucks have insulated, multi-temperature bodies – by Tekbo – with dual compartments and movable bulkheads.

The bodies are fitted with central locking and internal and external cameras.

Supplied by dealer Western Commercial, the vehicles come with a seven-year Mercedes repair and maintenance contract.

The latest additions were required to meet increased demand, and they join 11 rigid trucks ranging from 7.5 tonnes to 26 tonnes, and three Sprinters.

"Our Mercedes-Benz vehicles have always been highly reliable, cost effective to operate and popular with the drivers, which explains why we've remained loyal to the brand," says fleet manager Kamran Bashir.
