FORS reach extending to van fleets, says GE Capital18 November 2014

Light commercial vehicle fleets are increasingly being affected by Transport for London's Freight Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS), according to GE Capital's van lease division.

The organisation says that several of its commercial vehicle customers are finding FORS accredition is now a must for project bids.

FORS was launched initially for heavy goods vehicles operating on construction sites in London, but is starting to affect other sectors, smaller vehicles and a wider geographic area.

"A number of our customers have recently approached us to help them ensure that their LCV fleets meet the FORS requirements," says Simon Cook, UK fleet LCV leader for GE Van Lease.

"They are finding that it is becoming a prerequisite to bid for construction and other projects happening in London."

Although FORS demands a number of measures, says Cook, these are "simply common sense" for the majority of well-run fleets.
