Fraikin enters trailer rental market with 200 vehicles 06 August 2015

Fraikin, well known across Europe for its LCV and truck rental offerings, has now entered the UK trailer rental market.

The fleet services giant has opened a new rental branch in Northampton, and says it now has a fleet of 200 predominantly Cartwright and Lawrence David curtainside trailers for hire.

The new fleet includes single-deck tri-axle semi-trailers as well as double-deck units, with the upper deck height "repositioned to give them the widest possible appeal".

Transport Engineer understands that the new trailers are part of the £13 million 2015 investment in Friaikin's CV hire fleet, announced in April.

Fraikin operations director Mark Newnes says the firm is initially deploying trailers previously supplied on contract hire to City Link for the new venture, but hasn't ruled out adding to the fleet.

"We're using this as an opportunity to expand our rental portfolio. There is strong demand for quality single-deck and double-deck trailers and we'll be making them available over short and long-term rental periods," states Newnes.

"We've comprehensively refurbished the entire fleet, even though many of the assets were only delivered in late 2014," he continues.

"We've elected to open this new branch in Northampton as this area offers significant opportunity and growth," he adds.

The double-deck trailers are all accredited to EN12642XL for load retention and feature wrap-around curtains for safe and efficient loading and unloading.

Environmental and cost efficiency is also maximised, says Newnes, with each double-deck trailer running on super single 445/45 R 19.5 tyres, which help to reduce tread wear and improve fuel performance.
