Frozen food logistics operator takes ownership of Schmitz reefer order27 October 2014

Frozen food logistics operator Yearsley Logistics is extending its fleet with 35 S.KO Cool refrigerated trailers from Schmitz Cargobull, citing cost of ownership as the key factor for selection.

The tri-axle deep freeze trailers are fitted with Thermo King and Carrier refrigeration units.

The semi-chassis design means they sit approximately 100mm lower than most competitor trailers, optimising fuel efficiency while retaining the same internal working height.

Will Maycock, Yearsley's head of transport, says: "We looked at a variety of manufacturers, but we've found that Schmitz Cargobull provide a very strong offering in terms of cost of ownership – upfront price, operating costs and residual value."

The semi-trailers incorporate split internal cushion doors to allow smaller number of pallets to be loaded, when required.

They also have 3-phase electrical sockets, allowing the refrigeration unit to be connected to an industrial power supply and kept running at any of Yearsley's sites, without using diesel fuel.

Three-quarters of Yearsley's 400-strong trailer fleet is now Schmitz Cargobull equipment.
