Fruit and veg wholesaler goes for growth with Mercedes Sprinter vans20 March 2014

Wholesaler Canim Fruit & Veg has taken delivery of nine Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans, the first new vehicles to join its 30-strong fleet.

Supplied by dealer S&B Commercials, the long-bodied, high-roofed 313 CDI models join the fleet of pre-owned and rented vehicles. The latest additions are powered by 129bhp engines and limited to 70mph.

Until now, Canim has operated pre-owned and rented Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

"We've always been happy with our Sprinters," confirms Aydin Maraslioglu, managing director. "The running costs are very competitive and they lead the market when it comes to safety."

And he adds: "Reliability is crucial, too, because these vehicles start very early and cover big distances, often in heavy traffic."

The new Sprinter is 7% more fuel efficient than its predecessor and, with optional features, this can be boosted by a further 6%, delivering up to 44mpg. It also includes safety additions such as Crosswind Assist, to prevent drifting across lanes.

The Enfield-based company has two depots in London and one in Sheffield. The new vehicles will service these locations, as well as three new sites, the first of which is in Bristol.
