FTA urges DVLA to focus on fleet operators’ needs04 March 2014

The Department for Transport (DfT) has published the results of its review of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), which includes several measures to promote greater customer focus by the agency.

The Freight Transport Association welcomes the report and says it is "encouraged" that the key themes from its submission have been included.

The main points include: development of a 'one-stop-shop' concept, to allow multiple administrative transactions across all government agencies through a single portal; a call for the DVLA to focus its services on business users, as well as individuals; compatibility of government IT solutions; and potential for outsourcing of non-core activities.

"FTA is encouraged by this report, as it clearly defines a future which brings the DVLA into the 21st century," says Ian Gallagher, FTA's head of policy.

"We would urge the Agency to embrace these recommendations... It is imperative that DVLA develops systems which cater for its entire customer base, from the single motorist to the fleet operator who administers thousands of vehicles," he adds.

DVLA will now prepare a strategic plan to implement the review recommendations.
