‘Game changing’ recorder delivers incident footage in seconds20 March 2014

SmartWitness has launched an advanced vehicle journey recorder that it describes as a "game changer", delivering video footage of incidents within 60 seconds.

The KP1 system, says the company, is the most powerful 3G/4G instant video transmission vehicle camera, with built-in tracking and telematics data.

As soon as KP1 detects an incident, it sends a 10-second video clip – compressed to 150kB of data – via secure email to any authorised recipient, allowing insurance claims to be filed very quickly.

Features include: a built-in, forward-facing camera, with an optional second camera for interior, side or rear views; Speed Pulse input for accurate vehicle speeds; a Bosch g force sensor, configurable to +-16g; daily driver reports, by secure email or SMS; and an upgradeable communications interface for 3G, 4G, Wifi, WiMax and Bluetooth.

"The KP1 is unlike anything on the market today," says Simon Marsh, SmartWitness managing director. "It delivers crystal-clear footage of any incidents within seconds, via email in the most cost effective way.

"It really is a game changer," he adds.

Marsh says SmartWitness fleet clients already save 20% on premiums with the company's cameras. The new KP1, he believes, could reduce their premiums even more, as insurers will be able to pass on cost savings to clients.

"Fleet operators and insurers want the peace of mind vehicle recorders give them," states Marsh.

"They know costs aren't going to spiral with disputed claims being dragged out over months... In addition, in-cab CCTV ensures that blameless drivers can always prove their innocence," he adds.

"And it is a vital safeguard against the growing problem of cash-for-crash fraudsters."

The KP1 camera system costs from £199.99.
