Get a grip on winter tyre fitments, says Continental24 September 2015

Continental is reminding truck and bus operators that now is the time to consider winter tyres for the coming season.

As temperatures begin to dip below 7ºc, the rubber used on summer tyres stiffens and winter tyres have a clear advantage, says the manufacturer.

Continental recommends fitting trucks and buses with winter tyres on all axles for optimum traction on damp or icy roads – its range includes trucks tyres for all axles as well as winter tyres for city buses and coaches.

Tyres featuring the mud and snow (M+S) label on the drive axle are the minimum legal requirement for winter driving in many European countries, and Continental’s winter range exceeds both this standard and the 3PMSF requirement.

The Scandinavia range for distribution and long-haul trucks comes in 17.5, 19.5 and 22.5 sizes. It includes the HTW 2 Scaninavia 445/45 R19.5 trailer tyre and a winter tyre for megaliners..

For passenger transport, the new Conti UrbanScandinavia HA3 for bus transportation is an all-round tyre, designed with numerous biting edges and sipes for extra grip.

And, with its closed ribbed tread pattern and 3D microsipes, the HSW 2 Coach can be used on all axles.
