Go-Ahead London trials Optare’s Metrodecker18 August 2016

Go-Ahead London has taken delivery of a pre-production 10.5-metre Metrodecker demonstrator from Optare, to put the vehicle through its paces in a series of trials.

The TfL-specification bus will operate on routes from Go-Ahead’s Bexleyheath bus garage.

The Metrodecker is powered by a Euro 6, four-cylinder Mercedes OM934LA engine, with ZF Ecolife transmission.

It will be available in two lengths: as well as the two-door TfL-specification at 10.5m, a single-door provincial model measures 11.1m.

“We are delighted to be able to put the Metrodecker through its paces in London and monitor its performance in terms of reliability, serviceability and fuel efficiency and also gain both customer and driver feedback on this new double deck,” says Richard Harrington, engineering director for Go-Ahead London.

Optare’s Robert Drewery adds: “Across all trials we have conducted outside of London, we are seeing the vehicle consistently deliver best-in -class mpg performance in service. I am delighted that the Metrodecker will now be setting out to prove itself in the capital.”
