Golden opportunity for McBurney Transport with Scania limited edition truck02 June 2014

McBurney Transport is marking its forthcoming 50th anniversary with an order for a Scania Golden Griffin, the limited edition truck being produced by Scania to celebrate its own 50-year anniversary of operation in the UK.

Supplied by dealer Road Trucks, the Golden Griffin model specified by Ballymena-based McBurney Transport is an R730 LA 6x2/2MNA Topline tractor with a Scania DSC16 -21 Euro 6 engine, delivering 730bhp at 1,900rpm and 3,500Nm of torque between 1,000 and 1,350rpm.

Each Golden Griffin is equipped with Scania's top end Griffin pack, including extras such as a kitchenette and entertainment system.

It also incorporates a range of active and passive safety features, including Lane Departure Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control and Advanced Emergency Braking.

The transport operator's 50th anniversary is in 2015 and it has ordered Golden Griffin number 50 from the Scania range, which is limited to 50 vehicles.

"I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate my own 50 years in business than by buying Golden Griffin number 50," says Norman McBurney, managing director. "It is now more than four decades since I purchased my first Scania and over the years the marque has played an important role with our fleet."

The commemorative vehicle will join McBurney Transport's fleet of 480 trucks and 1,100 trailers.
