Grundon picks up access capability with DAF LF29 September 2015

Waste management company Grundon has extended its fleet with a Euro 6 DAF LF 220 FA with 12.6 cubic-metre capacity rear-loader ‘K-Maxi’ body from refuse and recycling business NTM-GB in Kidderminster.

The 15-tonne chassis joins 43 other DAF vehicles on Grundon’s waste collection operations in London.

The vehicle was specified to meet manoeuvrability demands in London and to suit Grundon’s driver-only operation policy.

“Our drivers face constant access issues with our larger vehicles,” says Stephen Townsend, Grundon’s group fleet engineer.

“The smaller DAF Day cab provides good visibility for the driver, enhancing the awareness of vulnerable road users – this, along with the camera and side scan equipment, enhances the vehicle’s flexibility in town.”

The cab also gives easy access for the driver, he adds, while the “Allison auto transmission and an exceptional turning circle provides outstanding manoeuvrability”.

The 16-tonne DAF chassis footprint is “well matched” to the K-Maxi body, says Townsend, adding: “Down-rated to 15 tonnes, it still offers an impressive payload plus a reduced VED benefit.”

Its 12.6 cubic-metre capacity body features an NTM Barlift and a pneumatic bin catcher bar, proportionally controlled hydraulic levers (for bin-lift, carriage plate and packer plate) and high-speed compaction.

DAF is working with NTM-GB to offer refuse collection body combinations for 7.5, 12, 15 and 16-tonne gvw, with whole vehicle type approval and, says DAF, predictable lead times.
