Grundon Waste’s DAF truck first to be converted to hydrogen dual-fuel07 September 2017

ULEMCo has completed a hydrogen-diesel dual-fuel conversion for one of Oxfordshire-based Grundon Waste Management’s waste disposal trucks, in a deal which is said to mark several industry firsts.

This is the first private sector contract for ULEMCo and it is the first conversion of a DAF vehicle.

The project also featured a new modular approach to conversion by ULEMCo, with the deployment of a 10kg hydrogen unit on the side of the truck. This method, it says, will reduce the costs of converting other vehicle types.

“We are highly impressed by the potential of hydrogen dual-fuel to reduce our carbon footprint as well as reducing costs in the future,” says John Stephens, Grundon’s group logistics manager, John Stephens.

“The synergy of combining the use of hydrogen-fuelled vehicles with the potential production of hydrogen from waste treatment processes makes it especially compelling.”

Grundon has committed to reducing all greenhouse gas emissions from its vehicles to net zero by extending its CarbonNeutral fleet certification programme for a fourth consecutive year.

ULEMCo is exhibiting at the Cenex-Low Carbon Vehicle Event 2017 at Millbrook, taking place on 6-7 September.
