Hampden Cars picks up Mercedes Citan Tourers03 February 2016

Private hire operator Hampden Cars has extended its 500-strong fleet with 18 Mercedes-Benz Citan Tourers.

Supplied by dealer Western Commercial, the Glasgow-based operator’s new additions are all 109 CDI models, powered by 90bhp engines that promise fuel efficiency of up to 61.4 mpg.

The vehicles have second rows of seats and can accommodate a driver and up to four passengers, and are the first Citan Tourers to join Hampden’s fleet.

Hampden also uses the Vito for its black cab operation, as well as C-Class and S-Class cars for its executive division.

“Mercedes-Benz vehicles are not always the cheapest up front, but we’ve learned from long experience that when it comes to value for money, they’re second to none,” says Stephen Conley, director of Hampden Cars.

The Citans, he adds, were “very competitively priced and certainly represent a step up in quality over the cars they’ve replaced”.

Hampden Cars buys its taxis outright, then rents them to drivers. “Choosing the right vehicle is hugely important – it helps us not only to attract customers but also to retain the best drivers,” adds Conley.

Hampden’s Citans are supplied with three-year Mercedes-Benz Service Care contracts, under which all routine maintenance costs are covered by a fixed regular payment, with work carried out in Western Commercial’s Glasgow workshop.
