Haulier reports ‘outstanding’ results from Continental tyre policy03 April 2019

Haulage contractor H&L Transport is reporting “outstanding” results since switching to a Continental-only policy from another premium tyre brand.

As well as strong support from the manufacturer and local dealer, H&L has found the tyres are delivering excellent life and wear – when Continental HD3 315/80 drive axle tyres were removed from a Scania 484bhp 6x2 mid-lift tractor recently, checks showed they had delivered more than 650,000km.

Mike Hill, partner in the Cumbria-based operator, says he was “astonished”, adding: “We always check fitting and removal dates to keep an eye on tyre costs and performance, but we’ve never experienced anything like the distance covered by these Conti HD3s.”

He adds: “I was so sure we must have made a mistake. I checked another Scania in the yard and found it had already done almost 440,00km and still had a good 11mm of tread depth.”

H&L now specifies Continental for any new trucks as well as for replacement fitments, and works with local dealer Cumbria Tyres.

Hill says: “We have had other premium tyres, at least in terms of cost, but in truth we didn’t always get premium service. It’s different with Conti.”

He adds: “We know that if we do have a problem on the road, such as hitting some debris at night, the Conti360ᵒ Network is very quick to respond, wherever we are. It’s a truly outstanding service.”
