Hawkins Logistics adds another Volvo FH truck 05 August 2013

Hawkins Logistics has taken delivery of a Globetrotter XL-cabbed 6x2 Volvo FH tractor unit, powered by the manufacturer's 500bhp D13C500 engine.

The Rugeley, Staffordshire, based operator's new FH is also equipped with Volvo's I-See advanced transmission, which the Swedish truck manufacturer claims can save up to 5% on fuel when used during a driving cycle where I-Cruise is engaged in hilly environments.

The system combines Volvo's I-Shift automated transmission with intelligent cruise control and GPS to automatically memorise and share information about 5,000km of hills.

Instead of relying on maps, I-See recognises gradients and uses its stored knowledge to, for example, avoid unnecessary downshifts when nearing the top of a gradient.

"The service we get from Hartshorne is excellent," comments managing director Paul Hawkins.

"Their workshop technicians and the dealer's management know their customers and communicate well," he continues.

"Another reason we continue to choose Volvo is that it is a strong and well-built product. You feel safe in a Volvo truck and the new FH is the best truck on the road for visibility," he adds.

The new FH, supplied by Volvo dealer Hartshorne, joins the operator's mixed fleet of 15 trucks, eight of which are Volvos.
