Helsby and Longden takes ’65 plate Volvo FE AND FH trucks 08 September 2015

Runcorn-based general haulier Helsby and Longden has taken delivery of seven new ’65 plate Volvo trucks from Thomas Hardie Commercials, Middlewich.

The comprise four 6.8 metre wheelbase FE-280 4x2 18-tonners, two 5.8 metre wheelbase FE-320 6x2 26-tonners and a high-spec Globetrotter-cabbed FH-500 6x2 tractor unit.

The rigids were all specified with I-Shift automatic gearboxes and all of the new trucks have been equipped with Dynafleet telematics, which Helsby and Longden is now trialling.

Operations director Jamie Jardine says the family-owned operator decided to continue with Volvo trucks in light of its good operating experience since first choosing the marque back in the 1990s.

“We’ve had a really good experience with Volvo’s reliability and you can’t fault the back-up we get from Thomas Hardie,” states Jardine.

“These new trucks are all on Volvo’s Gold R&M contract with the maintenance being carried out at Middlewich,” he continues.

“We decided to replace the rigids with the latest series Volvo FE, which now has the I-Shift gearbox. This is ideal for the multi-drop work we do and there should be less wear and tear on the truck too.”
