Henshaw buys in to benefits of first Mercedes-Benz truck30 July 2019

Edinburgh-based facades business Charles Henshaw & Sons has taken delivery of its first Mercedes-Benz truck.

Supplied by dealer Western Commercial, the new addition is a 7.5-tonne Atego with ClassicSpace S-cab, and is powered by a 5.1-litre engine producing 154bhp and paired with a six-speed PowerShift 3 transmission.

Supplied from stock, the truck has a 20ft aluminium dropside body by DPH, of Bathgate.

The operator was previously leasing a 7.5-tonne truck; when the three-year contract finished, the dealer “made a persuasive case” for purchasing a new Atego, says James Gallon (pictured), Henshaw’s production manager.

“The sums certainly added up – outright acquisition should prove a more cost-effective solution over the longer term,” he says.

“We have every confidence that the Atego will live up to our expectations in terms of build quality and reliability, and would envisage running this vehicle for six, seven, maybe even eight years.”

The drivers are happy with the choice, too, he adds: “They are particularly impressed with the automated gearbox, which makes their job so much easier and more enjoyable.”

The Atego will be maintained at Western Commercial’s Broxburn workshop.
