"We deliver round-the-clock from various supply points to our UK stores network and of course this presents numerous logistics and operational challenges.
"The suite of telematics modules installed by Verilocation plays a key role in helping to manage the fleet and, most importantly, the control and reporting systems enable us to maintain 100% compliance," comments Heron Foods head of logistics Karl Dawson.
He explains that GPS tracking enables Heron keep tabs on each vehicle from a single control point while also allocating routes and schedules as situations change.
At the same time, the system enables Heron fleet management team to monitor each driver's performance – checking for the usual issues, including harsh braking, over revving, speeding or idling – leading to further training where required.
Dawson also says that, in addition to the standard CANbus vehicle reporting, Heron can also view internal vehi8cle body temperatures for refrigerated vehicles, and the system also colvers automatic digital tachograph downloading.
To assist with vehicle security and disputes arising from traffic incidents, Heron also uses Verilocation's forward and rear facing 3G and CCTV camera systems, which provide a continuous live feed to the traffic office.
