Hewicks Haulage rates Euro 6 Volvo FH tractor units 13 March 2015

Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk-based haulier Hewicks Haulage has taken delivery of two Volvo FH-540 6x2 tractors, with XL Globetrotter cabs and I-Shift automated transmissions.

The new trucks are part of a £1.5 million investment, which saw the new Euro6 tractor units joining what is now a 32-strong fleet, including three Volvo FHs from 2010.

"The pricing on the tractor units was right and the dealership [Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia] gave us a good trade-in price on another vehicle," comments Hewicks Haulage director Carl Brinkley.

"Taking into account the driving environment and the fantastic all-round visibility in the new FH, Volvo was a natural choice for us," he continues.

Brinkley says the five-year Gold maintenance contract "massively lessened the risk" and adds that his local dealership is the "best I've ever come across".

Brinkley's latest Volvo FH tractor units are now dedicated to tanker work, carrying liquid animal feed all over the country.

"The drivers love them," he says "They tell me they are a big improvement on the previous generation FH."

The trucks are expected to cover 130—135,000 km per annum and fuel consumption will be closely monitored. "We look at all our drivers' fuel figures each week," states Brinkley, "and the new Volvo FHs are achieving, on average, about 8 mpg at 44 tonnes."
