Highway services firm has multi-direction tipping with Hyva11 October 2013

Highway services firm BEAR Scotland has acquired a fleet of tipper trucks fitted with Hyva underfloor three-way tipping gears, enabling loads to be tipped off either side of the vehicle, as well as from the rear.

This is the first time that Perth-based BEAR has chosen three-way tippers for its fleet, which carries a variety of loads from stone and tarmac to traffic cones and road signs.

With the DAF LF55 chassis and steel dropside bodies, the Hyva UMB129 tipping gears enable BEAR to improve the operating efficiency and versatility of its large fleet. The 12 new 180 hp trucks will work from depots across Scotland and offer a high payload capacity within a 12-tonne gross vehicle weight.

Kevin Parkins, BEAR's fleet manager for north west contracts, says: "The tippers we really want are those that are the easiest to operate and the most economic to own. They also need to combine safety and practicality for their crews, as well as reliability and cost effectiveness for us as their owners."

The versatility of three-way tipping is vital, since loads can be discharged precisely where needed when the trucks may facing the wrong way on the highway verge. This also minimises potential obstruction to other traffic.
