Huntapac trims fuel bill with new Mercedes Actros19 February 2018

Vegetable grower and distributor Huntapac has taken delivery of five Mercedes-Benz Actros tractors, following “highly impressive” fuel performance from a demonstrator unit.

Supplied by dealer Ciceley Commercials, the Lancashire-based operator’s new additions are Actros 2548 models with flat-floored BigSpace cabs. They are powered by 470bhp straight-six engines paired with PowerShift automated transmissions.

Like the demonstrator, loaned by the same dealer, they are fitted with optional Predictive Powertrain Control to boost fuel economy.

“We ran that vehicle for a couple of weeks, during which it posted some highly impressive fuel figures,” recalls Will Hunter (pictured), Huntapac’s operations director.

“Overall, it averaged 10mpg, which compared very favourably to the 8-9mpg typically achieved by our 65- and 66-registered vehicles. The new trucks are already living up to that promise and we expect they’ll improve still further over time.”

The new vehicles are proving popular with the drivers, he adds, and the dealer has also delivered: “Its service in delivering these vehicles bang on time and in perfect condition was probably the best I’ve experienced.”
