Hybrid drivetrain buses set for operations in Scottish city 31 January 2012

First Glasgow has introduced a fleet of 10 hybrid double deck buses – all Enviro400Hs from Alexander Dennis and BAE Systems, and the first of their kind for greater Glasgow.

With increased congestion, rising fuel costs and concerns about emissions, First Glasgow's managing director Ronnie Park believes this is what customers see as the future for public transport.

"We are leading the transport sector in pioneering environmentally friendly transport, including the introduction of low carbon emission hybrid buses in our fleet," states Park.

"In addition, we have implemented a very successful driver-based green initiative which has further reduced our carbon footprint," he adds,

"I am delighted to see bus operator First Glasgow bring more environmentally friendly buses into its fleet," comments Councillor Jim Coleman, executive member for land and environmental services for Glasgow city council.

"As well as encouraging more people to use public transport, we would also like to see greater use of low carbon vehicles. I hope that these new hybrid double deck buses are the first of many in the city."
