IKEA selects Scania low-entry tractors with Allison autos 08 February 2017

Furniture retailer IKEA is now using specially-designed Scania tractor units with the Swede’s low-entry cab variant as well as fully automatic Allison 3000 Series transmissions at its distribution centres in Sweden.

At its oldest distribution centre, in Älmhult, for example, goods are now being transported between warehouses by one road tractor, two flexi-trucks (which can also take swap bodies), plus two vehicles operating in the warehouse area.

“Over the next few years, we are updating our truck fleet and replacing the existing warehouse tractors with considerably more effective and comfortable road tractors and flexi-trucks,” comments Heléna Persson, an internal hauler team leader at the IKEA distribution center in Älmhult.

“We have been very satisfied with fully automatic transmission-equipped vehicles throughout the years,” she continues, adding that the oldest Euro 3 truck has been in service for 14 years.

“With that one, and all other Allison-fitted vehicles, we never experience transmission-related failures.

“Other than regular oil and filter changes, there is nothing else they require. Fully automatic transmissions are a perfect solution for our kind of transport work.”
