Image and reliability fuel latest bus and coach orders04 August 2015

Fuel efficiency, image and reliability are three of the key reasons for operators placing the latest batch of bus and coach orders, with Wrightbus and Volvo.

Bus operator Arriva Southern Counties has placed a £1.74 million order for 12 Wrightbus Micro-Hybrid Streetlites (pictured), to extend its existing StreetLite fleet.

Seven of the new 10.8m buses are running in Maidstone; five are running in Surrey, allocated to Arriva's Guildford depot. All feature eco-leather seating, free on-board Wi-Fi and brighter lighting.

Irish operator McGinley Coach Travel has opted for a Volvo B13R, after reporting 10-15% fuel savings and excellent reliability from its Volvo B11R coaches.

The company needed a larger vehicle to boost capacity: the 14m Volvo B13R has 65 seats.

And long-term Volvo customer Pierce Kavanagh Coaches, also based in Ireland, has extended its fleet with a Volvo B11R 9700 Euro 6 coach.

The vehicle, it says, is now flagship vehicle for its 30-strong fleet.

"Much of our work involves the transportation of American tourists visiting Ireland and it is important that we are offering them a true frontline coach and in the Volvo B11R 9700, we have this," says managing director Pierce Kavanagh.
